Introduction

This website is a part of the Senior Thesis of Charles F, which addresses the question "What legacy did Byzantium leave?" This is a full survey of the history, status and culture of the eastern Christians after the fall of Constantinople.

The Near East had been attracting the world's eye ever since 911, but none of that had been payed to the religious minorities of the area. In essence, both the Christians faith and the western civilisation originated in eastern Mediterranean, but due to various reasons this world had fallen into poverty, war, and disorder. The author hopes to shed some light on this forgotten Christian world in the modern age.

The content will address accordingly the condition of the eastern Christians after 1453 all the way until now. Including under the Ottoman rule, nationalistic awakening, between the two wars, and present. The background music comes from the author's personal collection of near eastern music. Videos will be pertinent to the theme addressed on the page. Most of the pictures do have illustrations, and if you are using a computer, you can move the arrow above the picture to see it without clicking.
